Insets and Customised Trainings
for Schools

Welcome to Brain Gym® Training for Schools

We are happy to receive all enquiries about training, whether these are very preliminary or you have a formulated concept of what you want. If you are thinking about booking an inset, “twilight”, seminar or talk, there are two ways you can do this:

  • Book direct with your selected Brain Gym Instructor
  • Book via the Foundation Inset Co-ordinator

In both cases, the training will be delivered by a qualified Instructor who appears in our current Professional Directory.

  • Booking direct with the Instructor
Contact the Instructor of your choice – they are listed by area in the Professional Directory - and discuss your training requirements direct with them. This has the advantage of immediate communication with the presenter. Brain Gym Instructors are used to creating training content to suit the individual needs of the school.
  • Booking through the Foundation
Ring us to talk to our INSET co-ordinator. The Educational Kinesiology Foundation has been sponsoring and organising trainings in the UK since 1984.

Whichever way you book, we offer:

  • One day and half day Inset
  • Short seminars, twilights and talks
  • Whole school or selected Year visits to the classroom for joint teacher/pupil training
  • Training delivered in stages over a term or other chosen time span
  • Presentations for large or small groups
  • Other customised training to suit your needs
  • Brain Gym trainings aim to be enjoyable, active, stimulating and informative.
  • The tools you will learn can be used immediately with a wide range of learning ability.
  • Even a small amount of intervention with Brain Gym activities, used regularly, can make a difference to class behaviour and learning outcomes.
  • Staff often find the blend of movement and learning involved to be refreshing and fun.
  • Training delivered by a qualified Instructor makes for greater guidance in how to use the programme to best effect, adapting the activities for different age groups and levels of ability.
  • The activities are designed both to activate and relax, so one of the additional benefits is for staff themselves, as a preparation for teaching or administrative responsibilities.
  • As well as learning tools to help students, participants will learn about themselves and gain simple ways to help their potential too.
  • Brain Gym customised trainings are a way of opening the door to the area of the physiology of learning, a fascinating development in learning approach – there are many opportunities to follow this up with more in-depth training.

    Training: January 2008
    Brain Gym Instructor: Alan Heath

“When you attended our very successful training day you asked for any feedback in response to the work we have now embarked on in school. Each class completed some simple assessments of the children's abilities particularly related to eye tracking, crossing the mid-line etc and subsequently put in place an intervention strategy for those identified as needing additional input.

All the classes have also integrated the exercises very successfully into their classroom practice for all children and one of our LSAs who leads a brilliant 'Wake up Shake Up' exercise session for children has also integrated the exercises into those sessions.

I have attached some action research one of our trainees has completed on the impact of the intervention strategy on a mixed group of Y1 children which I thought you might find interesting as you will see that for most children it proves conclusively there was a very positive impact.

Thank you for the training you provided it has certainly added another dimension to our work in school.”

    Brain Gym Instructor: Janice Graham

"Many many thanks for your presentation at the conference - there was excellent feedback with many people still talking about it later on in the afternoon. You certainly converted a lot of people - there were a few sceptics early on but once they had experienced it for themselves, they had a total rethink!  I hope that a lot of schools get in touch with you to take it further as they certainly indicated on the day that they could see the possibilities for their own schools"

    Training:
    Brain Gym Instructor: Jill Wallis

Head Teacher: "Primrose Lane Primary School and Nursery has recognised the value of Brain Gym for our children, and staff! The sessions presented by Jill were thoughtful, effective and have led to the successful introduction of Brain Gym throughout the school."

Deputy Head Teacher: “Since [the] training we now have daily Brain Gym®. I want to extend Brain Gym® in school further, with regular sessions for children with specific difficulties. The twilight session was excellent. I feel relaxed and confident about developing Brain Gym®. I have seen the positive effects of it for myself. [The] sessions [were] well prepared and professionally delivered."

Ruth Wylie, Head Teacher, Wren’s Nest Primary School, Dudley

    Training: January 2007
    Brain Gym Instructor: Janice Graham

“The training both motivated and inspired us all - support staff and teaching staff alike. Such was the impact that we have now introduced the PACE process throughout school with photographs of our children demonstrating the programme displayed through our interactive boards. Fantastic!”

    Students doing Brain Gym

A Brain Gym Instructor spends a day in the classroom training students how to use the activities

You can choose the focus of your training content. It could, for example, be a general preparation for learning using Brain Gym tools in the classroom or more specialised:

    • handwriting and reading
    • improving behaviour and attention
    • sports and physical skills
    • for Special Schools
    • for Pupil Referral Units

or any other target for improvement that you have for your school.

    Our priorities are:

It is important to us to take the time to understand your training needs and discover what you wish to achieve with your training investment.

We aim to have clear and open lines of communication with you when organising your event and to be on hand for any issues that arise before, during or after the training delivery.

We are happy to take on board any current issues the school is facing, such as amalgamations, special targets and stress issues and ensure the training takes care of these appropriately.

Procedure for booking through the Foundation

Our aim is to find the Instructor that best suits your needs and we are on hand throughout the run-up to the training for discussion on issues that arise over the general arrangements, training numbers and costs. We will ascertain from you whether booking the most local Instructor achieves this (for example, in case of the need for follow-up and strict budget considerations) or whether finding an Instructor with a more specialised expertise in your area of training focus is more important. She is ideally placed to provide this overview of relevant skills.

To ensure the best training content, the detailed programme for the event is usually decided in consultation between the school and the selected Brain Gym Instructor, so you will have direct communication with the presenter from early on in the planning.

Other arrangement details, such as equipment and timings, will also be discussed and handled by the Brain Gym Instructor

    After the training

We hope, of course, that you will be completely satisfied with your training and that it will proceed smoothly. After it is completed, we will contact you to find out how the training went and what the feedback was.

    Getting started

Rates for twilights, seminars and talks need to be discussed individually with the Instructor for directly booked training and with us for trainings booked via the Foundation. If booking your training through the Foundation, contact us on 0845 539 0312 or complete a Training Request Form on the website.

We look forward to helping with your training and
    continuing professional development requirements
